Lena Nitsan

Lena grew up in Berkeley learning from and spending time in the wild lands in the East Bay, Point Reyes, and the Sierra Nevada. After studying ecology at UC Berkeley, she did field work, botany, and ecological restoration in the wilderness of Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks before transitioning to full-time gardening and landscape design. She joined Backyard Permaculture Guild to work with others who share her values of caring deeply for the land and learning from each other.

Lena’s work is inspired first and foremost by natural systems, native plants, and wild places. She will work with you to create a garden aligned with your aesthetic and grounded in ecological principles. Lena will find the perfect native plants for each spot in your garden, help you grow fruits and veggies, and work to create habitat for native plants and insects. She also creates paths and patios and is excited to continue learning more about building garden structures using reclaimed wood.
